Designing for Two

If you have found that special someone and are planning a life together, you are likely to want to buy a home together as well. After you have had your huge dream wedding, or maybe a small more intimate occasion like an outdoor cottage wedding, you may be moving in as a new couple for the first time. Finding a design for your home that matches what you both want doesn't have to be complicated. Like many things in marriage, all it takes is communication and a little bit of compromise.

You may have already found yourselves compromising while shopping for the home you are now ready to decorate. You wanted a quaint property somewhere around Middlesex Ontario real estate, they wanted to look at big family Oakville homes for sale. Hopefully you have found a home that met both of your needs. Once you put the personal touch on it of decorating, you are both bound to be excited to settle down there!

Often times, it is easier to start out by choosing a general theme for your home's design. Many current decors incorporate new and old styles, fusing the two together for a modern appeal with a twist. Start off by choosing a few key pieces of furniture that will have similar qualities. If you have major pieces like the sofa and the armchair picked out, it can be easier to work from there and design the rest of the space around their style.

If you do have a large family home located somewhere with lots of space, like a home in Uxbridge Ontario, you might have the luxury of having many rooms to work with. This makes compromising less complicated. You can both agree on a suitable style for the shared living spaces, and then you can each do what you want with the room you see yourselves spending more independent time in. Perhaps your husband can give the TV den a more masculine feel, and you get to make your bathroom a mini spa haven. As long as the styles you choose don't offend one another, there is nothing wrong with adding some variety.

Speaking of being offensive, do remember to consider your neighbors when you design the outside of the home. If you chose to buy one of the Riverdale Toronto houses for sale, and you wanted to give it a fresh coat of paint on the outside, take a look at what the neighborhood's style is. If people tend to have their houses all in fresh shades of white, it can be polite to ask your neighbors if they would mind the shade of blue you've chosen. Most people are easy to get along with if you approach them politely. This goes for talking to your partner as well! If you have your heart set on a specific piece of furniture that you've found, just let them know how much you love it and want to use it. There is more than likely an agreeable way to incorporate it into the décor. Take your time and enjoy the process. Remember, you're not just decorating a house, you're decorating and creating your very own home.
