Earth Friendly Choices

There are two major reasons that people today cite when asked why they've switched to making Earth friendly choices. The first is that they've realized that their children and grandchildren will have to deal with a lot of problems in order to survive if they don't make greener choices now. The second is that in order to fit in with the homeowners' association at Richmond Hill Condos, they have to buy and act green because that's what's hip. Whatever your reason, we can offer you some tips on making Earth friendly choices in your home and garden.

If you haven't yet chosen your house, there are several things you might want to look for. If you want to go green, tell your Windsor real estate agent to look for homes that get all or part of their energy from renewable sources and/or have water reclamation systems. You should also aim to live in an area with a well developed curbside composing and recycling program.

For those of you who already own your home, you can make major changes that will sit you in good green stead for many years. You can rig your house with solar panels, wind turbines, or even a geothermal energy system that will reduce your dependency on heat and energy created by burning fossil fuels. Doing so will also boost your home's popularity on the Oakville house listings should you decide to sell.

In going from home to work, you should aim to reduce your dependence on fossil fuels as well by not driving your car as much or by buying a fuel efficient or hybrid car. You can ask your Brampton real estate agent to find you a new place near work so you can walk, or if you want to stay where you are, get up earlier so you can ride a bike or take public transit to work. Small motor scooters are also becoming popular in cities in place of cars.

In your garden, you can help the environment by planting as many trees and shrubs as you can. They remove harmful carbon dioxide from the air. You should also avoid using chemicals to encourage your garden to grow, even if you want the lawn to look nice compared to other Markham homes for sale. Use herbal weed killers or plain old elbow grease and fertilize using compost, which you can create in your own garden using kitchen scraps and yard waste.
