Now that you've installed your backyard deck or patio and had Landscaping Kitchener around to spruce up the plants and the lawn, naturally you want to show off your perfect backyard. The best way to do this is to invite everyone over for a backyard party. It's the perfect way to celebrate summer and reap the benefits of all your hard work. Throwing a party outside isn't the same as throwing one inside, though. Here are some tips on how to throw a memorable outdoor party.
Lights and Furniture
It's important to make sure, especially if you're throwing an evening or nighttime party, that your backyard is adequately lit. The one light on the deck probably won't do it, so invest in some hanging lanterns or Christmas light strings that will give your yard a party feel. You'll also need to make sure everyone has room to sit down and there's somewhere to put food and drinks. Bring out enough chairs (borrow some from the other Etobicoke houses in your neighborhood if you need to) as well as some coffee or dining tables.
Decor
Nothing says "party" like special decorations. Theme parties can be fun, and Hawaiian luau theme is probably the most popular for outdoor summer parties. Go to the dollar store and stock up on leis, coconuts, and palm leaf motif decorations and make your yard look like you've been transported to Punta Mita condo rentals. The guests themselves can even contribute to the decor, if you tell them ahead of time, by wearing grass skirts or Hawaiian shirts.
Food and Drinks
Free food and free drinks are the two reasons most people can be persuaded to go to parties, so have plenty of both around. Hamburgers, hot dogs, kabobs, potato chips, salads, and finger foods are popular outdoor party foods. Decide whether you want your guests to possibly get drunk and serve or don't serve alcohol accordingly. Keep an eye on guests if you're serving liquor and make sure they don't drink enough to wreck your Mississauga real estate. And if you're serving liquor, as the host you need to make sure no one drinks and drives.
Guests and Activities
Outdoor parties necessarily create a lot of hubbub and noise, even if you're not playing music. To avoid getting complaints from neighbors, invite them to the party. Most people just let everyone socialize at a backyard party, but if you want you can organize events like limbo or dancing. You can even invite pets and have an Ottawa pet photographer come in to photograph the results of a pet dress-up contest. If children are invited, make sure there's something to keep them occupied, like sports or games.
