Real Estate

Obviously the first thing to do when you're thinking of setting up or remodeling your home and garden is to make sure you actually have a home or a garden you're interested in living in. If your apartment is too cramped or you want a yard of your own, it may be time to invest in some new real estate. If that's the case with you, the number one thing you can do to make the process of finding your new home go as smoothly as possible is to follow the advice of someone who makes their career in real estate. You may think you can do it on your own, but it's a complicated process in which realtors are well versed.

After you've decided on a realtor and enlisted his or her services, you need to start thinking about what type of home you'll be looking for. A bigger apartment? A condo? A townhouse? A suburban family home? A five-story Victorian mansion? This decision is largely dictated by how much room you're going to need and your budget. For instance, if you're going to be living alone and would rather have the safety of living in a secure building than your own yard, Queen West Condos might be something you could look into.

However, most home and garden buffs couldn't be satisfied tending to a few potted plants on an apartment windowsill, applying their skills from some faux finish instruction or helping to run a co-op roof garden in a condo tower. They dream of owning their own home with their own backyards where they can grow towering tomatoes, winding vines, or rows and rows of beautiful flowers without consulting neighbors or worrying about what direction the windows face. If that sounds like you, try looking at Mississauga homes for sale. Mississauga is far enough out of the city that you can have a house and a yard to yourself.

Once you've decided on a type of home is time to think location. Obviously downtown Toronto wouldn't be the right place to look if you wanted a bungalow and an acre of land unless you had heaps and buckets of money lying around. The closer to a city you get the smaller the plots get, so if you want a really spectacular garden try looking at Brampton real estate or real estate in one of the other outlying towns. They're far enough out of the city to be able to offer homebuyers bigger homes and more expansive lots.

Keep in mind though that the downside of moving further away from the city is that you can lose amenities if you go too far. You may be able to get an enormous plot of land big enough to grow farm crops on if you're willing to live in rural Ontario, but many of the villages and isolated farms in the countryside don't get things like cable television or high-speed internet. So before you commit, ask yourself if you're comfortable maintaining vacuum pump systems and septic tanks rather than being connected to a city's water and sewer lines.
